Sonance

Graduate-Hero Body

Sonance originally stems from the idea of trying to describe your dream to someone and it comes across as all broken and disconnected as you can’t quite get the wording right.

The collection delves into the impressionist artworks by Claude Monet, where his brushstrokes were done so in a rushed manner, creating movement and softness. In impressionist artworks, particularly in Monet’s work, the way the light moves was of utmost importance (Seitz, 2025). This is seen in Sonance where light, airy fabrications are used to create movement and create a sense of unity. The tactile quality and characteristics of materials being used within the collection adds intricacies of texture, depth, visual interest as well as a sensory experience.

Sonance indulges into a softer, more neutral colour palette inspired by the lightness of dreams and the airyness of movement that surrounds us. The colour palette is also a nod to feminism and purity.

As in recent seasons, the term ‘boho-chic’ has become prominent in vocabulary (Perez, 2025). This led to exploring 1970s bohemianism and hippie culture within the film Almost Famous and the show Daisy Jones and The Six. Looking at motifs such as flowy silhouttes, textures, layering and merging comfort with romanticism are represented using light, airy fabrics creating free-flowing design. Also progressing into music, particularly the song Bennie and The Jets by Elton John, a song which evokes one to get up to dance and move and personally reminiscent with past experiences.

Sonance enables the wearer to feel confident, pure and tranquil while wearing the pieces. Filled with abstract silhouttes and shaoes which are formed in a way that creates a sense of balance to the wearer, giving them more freedom to move and dream in any way they desire,
